Venice and its natural environment have a discordant relationship hindered by the tourism trade and a declining population within the Lagoon. This paper examines where methods of preservation have faltered exploring the dichotomy of natural and cultural preservation. Through examining the administrative bodies created in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to preserve the Lagoon, this paper acknowledges the vast history of integrated preservation between the Lagoon and Venice. Through the analysis of current laws in effect and those enacted after the Covid-19 Pandemic as well as through an examination activism surrounding the protection of the Lagoon, policymakers and preservationists need to incorporate the Lagoon into Venice's larger heritage environment, discard unenforced laws, and invest in Venice's remaining community for it to thrive.

520 $a Venezia e il suo ambiente naturale hanno un rapporto discordante ostacolato dal commercio turistico e da una popolazione in declino all'interno della Laguna. Questo articolo esamina dove i metodi di conservazione hanno vacillato esplorando la dicotomia di conservazione naturale e culturale. Attraverso l'esame degli organi amministrativi creati nel Medioevo e nel Rinascimento per preservare la Laguna, questo documento riconosce la vasta storia di conservazione integrata tra la Laguna e Venezia. Attraverso l'analisi delle leggi attuali in vigore e di quelle emanate dopo la pandemia di Covid-19, nonche attraverso un esame dell'attivismo che circonda la protezione della Laguna, i responsabili politici e i conservazionisti devono incorporare la Laguna nel piu ampio ambiente del patrimonio di Venezia, scartare le leggi non applicate e investire nella comunita rimanente di Venezia affinche prosperi.
