This study was motivated by the key research question, "What are the interrelationships between well-being and success as they are experienced by midlife women entrepreneurs?" In order to answer the question, I engaged in an intensive autoethnographic study focusing on my experiences and those of the many entrepreneurs with whom I interact. By the nature of autoethnography as a research methodology, the sample size was one; I was one member of the study's population, although my reflections were informed by the many interactions I had with other midlife women entrepreneurs facing similar issues with regard to well-being and success. The findings were contextualized within a conceptual framework consisting of the models of subjective entrepreneurial success and the expanding capital model of entrepreneurial success, along with Erikson's stages of human development. I found that, in the experiences of midlife women entrepreneurs, the overall relationship between well-being and success is very tight. Even small changes in one can have a distinct impact on the other, and there appears to be situated causality. Thus, when a midlife woman entrepreneur experiences rising or falling levels of success, her well-being tends to rise or fall, too, and vice versa. A key implication is that midlife women entrepreneurs need to employ holistic approaches in integrating disparate parts of their lives in order to achieve optimal success and well-being. Furthermore, the study calls for a new goal-setting model, as the existing goal-setting models are individually inadequate to address midlife women entrepreneurs' success and well-being needs.
