Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) represent pivotal strategies for achieving rapid business expansion, involving significant deal volumes and vast financial investments. Despite their magnitude, research highlights a concerning trend: a substantial portion, estimated between 70% to 90%, of overall M&A transactions fail to realize the anticipated synergies. Among the myriad of factors contributing to this failure, Information Systems Integration (ISI) stands out prominently, accounting for one-third of overall M&A failures (Hedman & Sarker, 2015) and directly impacting more than 50% of the expected benefits from M&A endeavors (Sarrazin & West, 2011). This research study focused on the post M&A ISI endeavors to examine the ways in which integration team capability can be uplifted to gain higher success rate of the combined information systems that would ultimately lead to higher synergies realization. This study, based on data collected from 1499 respondents through online surveys, investigates the critical importance of Integration team capability through the lens of six key organizational behavior factors: collaboration, communication, commitment, control structure, culture, and knowledge. The findings reveal a robust positive correlation between these factors and the overall capability of the integration team. Moreover, a strong positive association between team capability and the effectiveness of combined information systems is evident, as indicated by quantitative analysis (n = 1499, r = .831, p = .000). Furthermore, this positive relationship extends to the quality (r = .796, p = .000) and net benefits (r = .735, p = .000) derived from the combined information systems. Qualitative data collection corroborates these quantitative findings, providing additional support for the study's conclusions. In essence, this research contributes significantly to M&A literature by highlighting the pivotal role played by organizational behavior factors in ensuring the successful delivery of integrated information systems Post-M&A. By addressing these critical factors, this study advances our comprehension of the complexities involved in M&A integration processes and offers valuable insights for both practitioners and scholars alike, thus enhancing strategic decision-making and operational effectiveness in the realm of M&A activities.
