As the global population continues to age, there is increasing demand for human service professionals to address the various needs of older adults. Coupled with the lack of mental health professionals and resources, there is a need for human service professionals to be educated on the factors that impact the mental health of older adults. Being informed on these matters would allow human service professionals to serve their clients more effectively. A university-community partnership was developed to create an online training series for human service professionals who work with older adults. Based on Bronfenbrenner's bioecological model, this training consisted of five sessions with educational materials, discussions, and activities related to the factors contributing to older adults' mental health.A mixed method design, framed by stakeholder-driven program evaluation, was employed to evaluate this training series' acceptability, feasibility, and preliminary effectiveness. Participants of the training completed survey measures after each session, as well as a summative evaluation post-training. Additionally, interviews with key informants were conducted following the training period. An inductive and deductive approach was undertaken to analyze the qualitative data using thematic analyses.The quantitative surveys suggest that participants found the training acceptable and relevant. During the interviews, participants explained how and why they felt the training was beneficial and described what could be improved. Six themes emerged from the interview data: (1) activity outcomes (2) program creation (3) moving forward (4) overall expectations (5) resources; and (6) training logistics. Thus, the qualitative data supported the quantitative findings and provided new insight into factors that facilitated participant engagement or made participation challenging with understanding to enhance future training.The findings suggest that an online training program based on Bronfenbrenner's bioecological model demonstrated potential value and can have utility. Additionally, the findings enhance our understanding of the training's implementation processes and ways to improve future series. This study established that online training of this kind is feasible, but more research is needed to determine its effectiveness. Implications for future training are discussed.
