Urban infrastructure in the United States is expensive, inequitable, and unsustainable. Systems architecture can help remedy all three issues through data-driven tradespace analysis at the earliest stages of design by identifying the design options most likely to satisfy municipal and stakeholder needs. Systems architecture can also be extended as a decision support methodology for non-technological decisions regarding the development, integration, and long-term management of infrastructure. This dissertation explores the productive application of systems architecture-and related supplemental methods from systems engineering-to infrastructure design, development, and management.
