Organic electronic materials (OEMs) and hybrid halide perovskites (HHPs) are two classes of materials that show overwhelming potential towards a more sustainable and innovative future. In this work, we optimize crystalline thin film growth of organic small molecules p-terphenyl and C60 using a polymer-assisted crystallization solution growth method. The resulting enhanced crystalline ordering, mm-long crystallites, and low crystal formation energy are exciting steps toward potential integration of these crystalline thin films into electronic devices. HHPs are the leading emerging photovoltaic materials that could be combined with or ultimately replace silicon. Like OEMs, the performance of HHPs depends on the quality (morphology and defect density) of the material, which can be improved by tuning processing conditions or through the incorporation of additives. This work explores the latter, where a novel photoluminescence (PL) statistical analysis method is used to evaluate the effects of four different additives incorporated using three different methods in a Sn-based perovskite. The additive matrix introduced in this work can serve as a guide to additive and incorporation method choice for Sn-based perovskite material improvements. Incorporating amine-thiocyanate (AT) additives into the bulk showed the strongest optoelectronic enhancements. Thus, this work extends these results into AT additive concentration dependence studies in a SnPb-perovskite. Intensity-dependent PL measurements reveal hot carrier generation that is enhanced with increased concentration of ATs. An exponential-like correlation is discovered between the degree of hot carrier enhancement and AT concentration. Investigation into the additives' effects on (1) thin film morphology, especially the induced formation of 2D/quasi-2D domains, and (2) phononic properties reveals possible physical influences behind the phenomenological hot carrier and AT additive connection.
