This dissertation addresses the dearth in psychodynamic care for patients experiencing chronic psychosis. We review foundational theory regarding the diagnosis and treatment of psychosis and incorporate this early theory with modern research. Existing institutional models that treat serious mental illness are described. We discuss the manner in which various marginalized identities intersect with psychosis with the purpose of beginning to construct a more inclusive model of treatment. This dissertation culminates in the proposal of a psychodynamic institutional model designed to specifically treat individuals with chronic psychosis.
