Filmmaking is far from an overnight experience. It requires a high level of persistence to ensure the success of the production. As a director, one is certainly involved in each step along the way and depending upon resources available this will provide access to talent, locations, and other needed components. The production process requires a team of dedicated individuals who are ready to do whatever their will power demands to create a wonderful piece of art. Being a director is a serious role, and it requires a certain level of creativity and leadership to succeed. From casting, crowdfunding, rehearsals and assembling crew members, one will discover that pre-production is the longest part of the process compared to post-production. Pre-production requires an adequate amount of time and logistics in place to ensure a successful film. So often student films, short films and feature films can fail if steps are missed or poorly planned throughout the production process. As a result, it can cost companies and production teams thousands if not millions of dollars. Through my experience creating my master thesis film, you will uncover the depths, successes and minor setbacks incurred in the making of, Petting Zoo, a short film about hair discrimination in the workplace.
