The purpose of this research is to determine bluff stability in the upper terrace sands and bedrock materials of the distressed bluff at the Self-Realization Fellowship Church in Encinitas, California. The site is located west of 3rd Street and south of K Avenue in the City of Encinitas, California. The study area encompasses approximately 800 linear feet of bluff and north-south trending ridgeline. Owens Geotechnical Consultants, Incorporated conducted a geotechnical investigation of the bluff distress and performed a preliminary engineering design and comparison of mitigation alternatives. This study expands on the investigation performed by Owens Geotechnical Consultants, Incorporated. The detailed engineering analysis based on data collected by Owens Geotechnical Consultants and an evaluation of remedial measures. Evaluated remedial measures included cantilever wall/slope reconstruction combination, crib wall/buttress fill combination, reinforced earth wall/buttress fill combination, and rock anchors. These alternatives are discussed and compared. The most advantageous system found, rock anchors, are then discussed in detail.
