Child protective agencies serve the purpose of ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of children who enter the child welfare system because of reports of alleged child abuse or maltreatment. The child protective specialist (CPS) administers services to children who are abused or maltreated. The nature of the reported concerns involves the alleged abused or maltreated child's family, warranting investigation. The CPS worker often encounters complex situations in dealing with the children who have entered the child welfare system. The successful disposition of a child protective case critically depends on the leadership of the CPS worker. CPS leadership must possess the proactive leadership ability and skills to lead with passion and a mission to advocate for the CPS worker's efforts.
