Over the past three decades, behavioral threat assessment and management has emerged as effective strategies for preventing targeted violence incidents. While many educational institutions, public safety agencies, and corporations have adopted these practices, the potential benefits of information and communication technology (ICT) in targeted violence prevention have received insufficient attention. Based on this gap in the literature, this study employed a multi-step qualitative analysis framework that evaluated opportunities to increase community safety and security posture by identifying gaps and promising practices in targeted violence prevention and drawing from past incidents of targeted violence in the United States. Grounded in scholarly research, this study offers future research avenues and targeted violence prevention recommendations for legislators, public safety professionals, school safety professionals, and organizations at the federal, state, and local levels. Specifically, the study identifies opportunities for leveraging ICT to enhance targeted violence prevention. This study provides a comprehensive and well-rounded analysis of targeted violence prevention, highlighting the need for continued research and innovation in this critical area. By adopting the recommendations outlined in this study, communities can improve their ability to prevent targeted violence and enhance public safety.
