Most early childhood teachers understand the importance of social-emotional skills for young children. They agree that children need to know how to communicate with each other, identify their emotions, and maintain daily positive peer interactions. Unfortunately, there are many children who do not have these skills. A lack of social and emotional skills can lead to behavioral problems, which are a concern for both parents and teachers. The purpose of this project is to provide an early intervention training manual to help teachers develop social skills among children in their classrooms and to address challenging behaviors. The manual will focus on the teacher and child dyad, using video as a reflective tool. The teacher and child will watch and reflect on the videos together, enabling children to expand their emotional literacy, provide tools to help them develop better self-regulation skills and allow children to see different perspectives of their play by engaging in reflective practice with their teachers.
