This book critically examines the evolution and contribution of various social sector organizations, such as social enterprises, section 8 companies, NGOs, Public and Private Trusts, cooperatives, and philanthropy. It introduces broad context and sub-themes of each type of TSOs, with specific reference to the Indian economy and role of government in promoting Social Enterprises. It presents the theoretical foundation and its application to third sector organizations in the Indian context. It explores the perspective on capital formation by the third sector organizations and the option for resource mobilization by TSOs. There is a dedicated chapter to analysis of different types of social innovation as it is imperative to understand potential contribution of SEs. This book also includes an assessment of the impact of TSOs, process of scaling, emergence of strategies adopted Corporate Social Enterprises (CSE), and capacity development in the third sector. This book contains concepts andtheories, with illustrative cases at the end of each chapter. It will be beneficial as a reference book for researchers, policymakers, regulators. academics and students having an interest in third sector. Nisha Pandey, Director and Professor, Gujarat Institute of Development Research (GIDR), Ahmadabad, Gujarat, India. She has published more than 25 research articles in leading Journals and three books in the area of social entrepreneurship and women empowerment. She is a visiting Professor at MIU, Iowa, Fairfield, USA, and a visiting scholar at INTI University, Malaysia. Dr. Pandey has worked on various interdisciplinary research projects in several institutes of International repute. Ashish Pandey, Associate Professor, with Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management in Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, has more than 30 research articles in the leading journals and handbooks in the area Collaborators of spirituality at work, yoga and mindfulness in OB, interface of business and society.
