Sallaz -- Researching organizational elites : a critical realist perspective / Mike Reed -- The polyarchic bureaucracy : cooperative resistance in the workplace and the construction of a new political structure of organizations / David Courpasson, Stewart Clegg -- The limit of bureaucratic power in organizations : the case of the Chinese bureaucracy / Xueguang Zhou, Yun Ai, Hong Lian -- Murky power : 'think tanks' as boundary organizations / Thomas Medvetz -- Laboring for the man : augmenting authority in a voluntary association / Katherine K. Vallas, Andrea Hill -- Dominant ideological modes of rationality : organizations as arenas of struggle over members' categorization devices / Vibeke Vad Baunsgaard, Stewart Clegg -- Scenes from a power struggle : the rise of retail investors in the US stock market / Brooke Harrington -- Targeting organizations : private and contentious politics / Sarah A. Soule -- A political-cultural approach to the problem of strategic action / Neil Fligstein, Doug McAdam.
In this volume we strive to go beyond the dual approach of power opposing structural/oversocialized perspectives and situational perspectives, through theoretical and empirical contributions stressing power as a. continuously 'living' phenomenon. In particular, the volume will address issues including integrating the various forms of power in Organization Sociology. How can we reconsider the exercise of power as polymorphic and multidimensional? What ontological and epistemological challenges are raised by an integrated perspective of power? How organizational power shapes intra-organizational practices and inter-organizational relations?.
