Background Of The Jews In Italy -- Assimilation Or Integration Of The Jews In Italy -- Jewish Youth In Italy -- Italian Youth Movements And Jewish Youth Movements -- Jewish Youth And Jewish Identity.
The Emancipation led Italian Jews to redefine themselves in fundamental ways. The debate about integration and assimilation characterized the first decade of the 20th century and took place in different forms which continued until the Racial Legislation Laws of 1938. In the beginning of the 20th century, there existed in Italy numerous youth movements, newspapers and cultural societies. The aims of these youth organizations were the rebirth of Judaism, and the attempt to define the "essence" of Jewish identity. Throughout the study of Jewish youth in Italy and their struggle with their Jewish national identity, and its relation to Italian culture, the author demonstrates the integration rather than assimilation of Italian Jews to Italy in showing also the uniqueness and peculiarity of Italian Judaism.
