Despite the importance of organizational change, roughly 70 percent of change initiatives are deemed failures. Up to this point, the organizational change literature has failed to directly examine the relationship between organizational change and the work-family interface. As a result, the present study assessed the role that work-family conflict plays in successful change implementation, as well as examining the degree to which organizational climate, capacity for change, and the change processes moderate the relationship between organizational change and the work-family interface.

Results indicated that perceptions of change implementation success were positively associated with increased work-to-family conflict. However, family-to-work conflict was not significantly related to perceptions of change implementation success. Moreover, an organizational climate for change, capacity for change, and the change processes moderated the relationship between successful change implementation and work-to-family conflict. From these findings, it is evident that implementing change initiatives has negative effects on employees and the organization. Keywords: Organizational change; Work-family conflict; Climate; Change capacity.
