The purpose of this interpretive phenomenological study is to describe and interpret the lived experiences of medical imaging technologists with staff-related, intragroup or interpersonal workplace conflict in U.S. tertiary care centers, focusing on the antecedents, impact, and the technologists' and their leaders' management of the conflict. The study focused on the following central research question: What are the antecedents, impact, and management of workplace conflicts as experienced by medical imaging technologists in U. S. tertiary care centers? A review of the extant literature demonstrated a gap in the research on allied health professionals and specifically medical imaging technologists, as well as an increase in incivility due to conflict in the workplace. Thirteen participants from various regions of the United States took part in interviews in order to share their workplace conflict experiences. The participants consisted of four medical imaging leaders and nine staff technologists who were employed in U.S. tertiary care centers. The following themes arose from the study: 1. Workplace conflict---antecedents, impacts, and management---is affected by three factors---emotional intelligence, perception of injustice, and sense of empowerment. 2. Antecedents, impacts, and management of workplace conflict negatively affect individuals and/or organizations regardless of conflict type (i.e., task, process, or relationship). 3. It takes the concerted effort of all levels of the organization (staff, leader, and organizational levels) to manage workplace conflict in the process of moving from antecedents, impacts, and management.
