Curcumin has been a very promising natural polyphenol with numerous therapeutic properties. It has been extensively studied by researchers from both biological and chemical perspective. Even after being of such high importance, it still faces a shortcoming of poor bioavailability. This acts as a major restriction to the therapeutic action of curcumin. In this study, we will be using the principle of 'creative synthesis' in order to investigate the mechanism, factors affecting bioavailability, and present methods to enhance bioavailability of curcumin. Additionally, we will be studying other reactions like glycosylation, sulfation, and S-glutathionylation that have biological relevance and can possibly be used to enhance bioavailability of curcumin. Based on our synthesis, we will also put forward certain techniques to tweak the efficacy of the proposed methods. Future prospects of highly bioavailable curcumin and investigation for the same have also been suggested in this study.
