The project identifies best training practices for direct-care workers in an assisted living setting. The training focus areas are dementia, medication errors, and fall prevention. There are currently no training guidelines in place. The goal is to use best training practices and learning styles, to develop a successful continuum of care training programs. The top training practices found consist of lectures, discussions, online learning, and role-playing. The findings indicate an improvement in direct-care competence and job satisfaction. Successful training programs improve quality of care given by direct-care workers. Research showed dementia training is beneficial to staff and long-term care organizations. Studies also indicated a need for medication error prevention and fall prevention training.
