Thesis (M.S.)

In this thesis we have presented a transaction model for mobile databases. At present, most of the business applications are becoming large which is making the processing complex in mobile environment. Our model uses mobile agents to manage the processing of the transactions. The problems encountered during the processing of transaction in mobile environment are minimized by the use of these agents. Mobile agents are autonomous and move in the network whenever a host migrates from one cell to another.

The mobile agent present at the client keeps track of the transaction execution done on the fixed network. The Global Transaction Manager and the Local Transaction Manager present at the global and local levels respectively coordinate the execution of the transactions, at those levels. There also agents on the fixed network which help in transaction processing at the global and local level. They are called global agents and local agents respectively.

The strengths of the proposed transaction model are: reduction of disconnection and migration issues, and optimization of bandwidth utilization.
