The advancements of technology drive change within organizations, providing new opportunities to leverage emerging technologies in order to gain competitive advantages. Cloud computing is a technological advancement with the potential to drive change within an organization through the introduction of commoditized hardware and software. Through these advancements businesses are able to reduce IT costs, and increase technology flexibility by leveraging cloud computing (Mitchell & Meggison, 2014). Financial institutions are directly impacted by the advancements in technology and proliferation of cloud computing. In order to remain competitive it is critical for a financial institutions to develop and implement a strategy to take advantage of the benefits of cloud computing. Without a strategy for cloud computing, financial institutions run the risk of missing the benefits of cloud computing, missing out on the opportunity to leverage an infrastructure that operates like a utility (Goodburn & Hill, 2010). Cloud computing is a multifaceted technology, made up of various models and services. The multitude of models and services can be daunting for a financial institution to decipher and leverage. The goal of this research is to untangle the maze of terminology surrounding cloud computing in order to develop a model, which leads to a strategy to leverage cloud computing.
