Relating Circles: the Future of Native Leadership in the Episcopal Church minority examines the real issues facing Native persons as they attempt to become leaders in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church, worldwide. The approach of the research is qualitative and the intention is to provide a culturally sensitive look at leaders and leadership in this unique context. By engaging in focus groups as a methodology, in a cross-section of Native communities and settings, the researcher was able to delve into the depth and complexity of one particular minority's attempt at gaining leadership roles within a highly structured religious system. The research suggests that to effectively train Native persons for leadership in the Episcopal Church (and other systems), attention must be paid to the importance of relationships and community support, the traditions and languages of the people training, and the integration of an individual's identity to the community and the role of leader.
