Therapist burnout and career changes has been associated with ineffective supervision. Traditional supervision has been ineffective in developing positive perceived self-efficacy in therapist. Fifty-five supervisor-therapist dyads completed surveys measuring attitudes toward supervision and perceived self-efficacy. Pearson correlations demonstrated that supervisors who practiced solution-focused supervision were associated with social work interns with high perceived self-efficacy, p < .05. Pearson correlations demonstrated that, as the age of the social work interns increased high perceived self-efficacy decreased, p < .05. Pearson correlations also demonstrated that social work interns with high perceived self-efficacy were not associated with number of years interns had been practicing in therapy, p > .05. Further delineation of this model, a manual describing its components, and longitudinal studies will help to determine its impact on the profession.
