There are many programs and special projects geared towards services for elderly individuals with dementia, Alzheimer's, and other terminal illnesses. Programs that focus on families, and elderly individuals without dementia, Alzheimer's, and terminal illnesses are limited in today's world. Collaboration and programs that focus on a systemic perspective incorporating caregivers and elderly family members are non-existent. Caregivers experience much burnout, strain, and guilt when caring for their elderly family members, and often times these symptoms continue long after a decision to institutionalize their family member has been made. Given a choice, most would prefer to keep the family united.

This study designed a program focusing on elderly individuals without dementia, Alzheimer's, or terminal illness, and addressed the caregivers and elderly family members systemically and collaboratively. This study used collaborative language systems and solution focused therapy to bring a multidisciplinary team together to address various areas of strain and burnout. The evaluators found that such a model would be an effective form of treatment, would reduce burnout and strain amongst caregivers, and provide a dignified and better quality of life for the elderly family member. Evaluators also provided feedback and comments which have been included in the recommendations.
