Servant leadership is an emerging leadership approach that appears to be more relevant and timely in the present context than other value-laden leadership approaches. Servant leadership is a people-centered approach to leadership that includes an ethical component. Servant leadership should be viewed as a viable form of leadership to be studied and supported within the domain of intercollegiate athletics. Measuring demonstrated servant leadership of the varsity coaches as observed by the student athletes added value to the body of knowledge of leadership in organizations. The problem was to what level of servant leadership was demonstrated by coaches at Lincoln Memorial University, located in Harrogate, TN. The purpose of this quantitative cross sectional study was to focus on demonstrated servant leadership by the varsity coaches based on the perceptions of the student athletes from a gender and class designation analysis. The population of the student athletes was over 300 across men's and women's sports in a NCAA Division II sports program.
