The purpose of this study is to determine how artifacts from location information found on mobile devices and computers can be utilized to assist law enforcement in locating victims and suspects of crime as well as determining the participation of a suspect in a crime. The study addresses three main themes that include the location and participation of a suspect in a crime, the location of a victim of a crime, and the use of Web 2.0 artifacts as evidence in investigations. The foundation of this research stems from several case reviews in conjunction with literature that discusses location information and its interpretation. The discussion of findings is a cumulative analysis of the information found in order to support the suggestion that location information can be beneficial to law enforcement. Law enforcement officials and investigators are the intended target of this research.
