In recent years, organizations have shown increasing willingness to adopt agile scrum method (ASM) to meet the demand of modern-day software development; that is to deliver faster and better software, with a built-in flexibility to absorb last minute changes in requirements. This research study was undertaken to uncover the underlying factors that positively influence software developers' intention to use ASM. Recognizing the distinction between IS tool acceptance and software development methodology acceptance, this study used a hybrid model by combining five constructs from the technology acceptance model (TAM) and innovation diffusion theory (IDT) to make it better suited for investigating software development methodology. Through Qualtrics, an online survey was conducted by randomly selecting IT professionals within the United States of America (USA) with at least one year of ASM experience. The findings of the study revealed that perceived usefulness, perceived complexity, perceived social pressure, and perceived compatibility were statistically significant predictors of software developers' intention to use ASM. The perceived organizational mandate was found not to be statistically significant. With the beta of .70, perceived usefulness was found to be the strongest predictor. The perceived compatibility was also found to be a strong predictor (beta = .56). However, the apparent inverse relationship between perceived social pressure and perceived organizational mandate in the current study is a departure from the previous findings. At a theoretical level, this study reaffirmed that as technology acceptance theories, TAM and IDT are still relevant and vibrant. Additionally, the study validates that for examining technology acceptance involving methodology such as ASM, a hybrid model comprised of constructs from TAM and IDT is better suited. At a practical level, this study suggests that users perceive ASM to be highly useful. Furthermore, users also perceive ASM to be compatible with traditional software development methodology. The knowledge and insight gained from this study contributed to the body of knowledge related to theories of technology acceptance in information technology. Researchers and practitioners alike will benefit from this study.
