To lead is to have influence over a follower; however, a leader may have a multiplying or diminishing impact on the ones who follow. Leading technical teams, such as engineers and technicians, can be challenging and will require specific traits and attitudes to ensure the leader is not limiting the potential of the follower and team. The role of the leader is to equip and enable the follower to ensure their success. The research has suggested that a servant- first leader has the specific traits and attitudes needed to lead technical teams. The research also shows that by employing situational leadership contingencies, a servant-first leader creates an environment conducive to learning and growing, allowing the follower, as well as the team, to reach their full potential.
