This text provides a comprehensive study and dissertation entitled SGI Buddhist Jazz Artists and Global Citizenship whose inquiry question is: What common experiences of Buddhist jazz artists as active global citizens can shed contemporary understandings on the transformative potential of ordinary people to act in humanistic capacities as global citizens? Ten contemporary SGI Buddhist jazz artists were selected as co-researchers based on a set of criteria defining them as having engaged in global citizenship activities.

This inquiry falls under the contemporary paradigm "Interconnectedness," a view of human relations based on an awareness of the interconnectedness of life and all living beings as transformative, socially inclusive, and mutually empowering. The logic for employing Narrative Inquiry in semi-structured interviews was based on the assumption that an investigation into the lives of Buddhist, Jazz artists and active global citizens would reveal deeper understandings of the transformative potential of ordinary people to act in humanistic capacities as global citizens.

My original contribution to knowledge is the finding that a common component linking SGI Buddhists, jazz artists and actively engaged global citizens is the foundational respect for life and all human beings that comes from a broader understanding of the interconnectedness of life and the universe. The results of this inquiry are expected to be useful to students and participants preparing for the rapidly expanding evolution in the field of global cultural diplomacy with its impending need for new definitions of and education for global citizenship.
