The world of athletics has become a monumental culture and economic juggernaut throughout the world. It lacks in research in regards to studying the cultural framework between local community businesses and athletics departments. College athletics in some communities in the United States accumulates an immense amount of attention from the community, scholars, media outlets, local, state, and federal government. The study focused on the participants' lived experiences between an athletic department and a city in a small community. This study used a phenomenological approach assessed with Nvivo 10 conversation analysis software using open-ended questions with five members from the city of Monroe, Louisiana leadership team and five members of the University of Louisiana Monroe's athletic department leadership team. Schein's Organizational Culture and Leadership Theory and The Social Learning Theory was the theoretical framework used to discern, from their lived experiences, critical themes essential for the development of mutual relationship building that assure the development of a cultural framework. This study gave insight into athletic and city leadership pursuing a working relationship between business and athletics in a small community.
