This research was done based on the action research model using both quantitative and qualitative methods for research collection through online surveys and interviews with a study population consisting of student-athletes from the three highest revenue teams of the institution, along with their recruiting coaches.

Research revealed several conclusions based on the mindset of the student-athlete, the institution, and coaching staff. These included student-athletes prioritizing athletics over academics, how a culture of athletic success lessens a focus on academics, that the institution might create better disciplinary procedures to prevent academic probations from occurring, and that the recruiting process should include a balanced approach where academics are emphasized.

Some recommendations that were made, that are discussed further in the paper, include doing further research on the mindset of the student-athlete, having career fairs specifically for student-athletes, and having coaches implement better disciplinary actions while having clear expectations of their student-athletes.
