Thesis (M.A.)--Pacifica Graduate Institute, 2017.
Includes bibliographical references
A dream can express several truths at once and refer to several aspects of one's life through the same images and symbols. Incarnational memory has been utilized alongside dream therapy by physicians, healers, and shamans across time, cultures, and history before the era of modern psychology, as a method for patients to integrate trauma, face complexes, and ultimately transform their lives by utilizing past life shadow material. In cultures around the world, the wisdom of these images and narratives has contributed to understanding one's Self outside of ego consciousness. This thesis utilizes hermeneutic and heuristic research to explore how psychotherapists can revisit the phenomenon of clients' apparent past life memories that emerge through dreams, synchronistic events, and spontaneous recall in clinical settings. Methods of working with traumatic memories that arise in past life recall are discussed with an understanding of how best to honor this expression of the psyche.
