Thesis (M.A.)--Pacifica Graduate Institute, 2017.
Includes bibliographical references
This thesis hermeneutically explores attachment theory through the lenses of Jungian Analytical psychology with an emphasis on insecure, fearful-avoidant attachment. The thesis reviews attachment theory, internal working models, and formation of insecure attachment with an emphasis on fearful-avoidant, also known as disorganized, attachment. Attachment theory and its foundational concepts are conceptualized through a Jungian lens, and Jung's theories of the archetypes, self-regulation, compensation and individuation processes are compared to modern neuroscientific developmental research findings. The research is applicable to helping therapists work with clients who have a fearful-avoidant, disorganized attachment style and are unable to maintain self-agency and affect regulation in relationships.
