This study describes a conceptual frame for the use of mindfulness-based interventions in psychotherapy. A postmodern lens was used to illicit and analyze the personal experience of practitioners applying mindfulness-based interventions in a myriad of clinical settings and clinical populations. Their descriptions of application, gathered in interview format, were combed for commonalities using a grounded theory approach. The mutual aspects of their experiences served as the ground for theory genesis. The emerging theory, Querencia, represents the attitudes, practices, instruction, and expected outcomes that guide the application of mindfulness-based interventions. In addition, a process for tolerance acquisition was constructed based on interviewee's representations of therapeutic gains. This research contributes to the field of Counseling Psychology by offering the first practitioner-focused perspective on the application of mindfulness-based interventions as well as an appraisal of the congruence of mindfulness-based interventions with the Positive Psychology paradigm.
