Thesis (M.A.)--Pacifica Graduate Institute, 2017.
Includes bibliographical references
This thesis was born out of the author's curiosity of attachment wounds transmitted through her families generation of mothers and the effects of a lack of paternal emotional availability. The research investigates how the psychological wounding of ambiguous loss may invite the presence of the Great Mother archetype by engaging in a harmonious relationship with mother earth and the divine feminine within. Through a heuristic and hermaneutic methodology, this thesis illuminates that a connection with the archetype may serve as a vessel for mothering the soul. The findings examine the use of depth psychological techniques such as active imagination, dream work, art making, and ritual to dialogue with the Great Mother archetype. Finally, this thesis draws upon Hawaiian mythology and Jungian perspectives, unveiling ways in which one may awaken to the life and light of spirit and harmonize the soul by tending to the hidden mystery of one's inner life.
