Immigration: Exploration of the Liminal Space Betwixt and Between Cultures by Maria Elena Castellano-Hsia The trauma of immigration places a tremendous strain on the individual psyche debilitating the sense of self and making it difficult to become whole. This study suggests the need for a depth psychological exploration of the trauma and it provides lenses from the psychoanalytical theories related to object relations, trauma theory, migration, immigration, loss, transitional space, and personal inquiry. Using alchemical hermeneutic and heuristic methodologies, the research illuminates these theoretical constructs as useful vehicles that help explain the loss, dissociation, soul splitting, isolation, and liminality in the experience of immigration, and that serve therapeutically the immigrant's integration of lost aspects of self, necessary to wholeness and the rebirth of his or her authentic self.

520 $a El trauma de inmigracion somete a la psique del individuo a una tremenda presion que debilita el sentido del yo y le dificulta la integracion de todo su ser. Este estudio sugiere la necesidad de explorar el trauma desde la psicologia profunda, y provee la optica de las teorias psicoanalitica de la relacion de objeto, trauma, migracion, inmigracion, perdida, espacio transicional, e indagacion personal. Mediante el uso de las metodologias de alquimia hermeneutica y heuristica, la investigacion ilumina las construcciones teoricas como vehiculos utiles que sustentan la explicacion de la perdida, disociacion, el quiebre del alma, el aislamiento, y la liminalidad en la experiencia de inmigracion, y asimismo, sirven de manera terapeutica para la integracion de los aspectos del yo del inmigrante perdidos, lo que es necesario para la unificacion y el renacimiento de su yo autentico.
