Thesis (M.A.)--Pacifica Graduate Institute, 2018.
Includes bibliographical references
Written through the experiential lens of the author's encounter with psychic fragmentation, this thesis explores a depth psychological healing approach that taps into the wisdom of the myth of Psyche and Eros. An alchemical hermeneutic and heuristic approach traces the pathway the author followed from psychic dis-integration to a re- collection using Psyche's four tasks and imaginal therapy to create a stronger ego-self structure. The author's proposed therapeutic approach, which is based on C. G. Jung's active imagination, invites individuals to perform symbolic rituals to honor their journey through the stages of transformation. A fifth task proposed by the author addresses the particular needs of an individual in a psychotic crisis: it is the choice to relinquish the delusion of immortality and return to life as a limited, mortal human. That choice can begin integration, and the conscious meeting of self and Soul is embodied in a unique meaningful, purposeful life.
