Thesis (M.A.)--Pacifica Graduate Institute, 2018.
Includes bibliographical references
This research explores the nature of the dissociative responses that arise through complex developmental and relational trauma. Dissociative responses that develop from complex trauma perpetuate disordered relationships and perceptions of the world. This thesis provides a snapshot of how engagement with active imagination and creative expression allows one to consciously engage a transformational or healing process. It draws upon depth psychological concepts and the trauma research of Bessel van der Kolk, Donald Kalsched, and Daniela Sieff. Using hermeneutic, alchemical hermeneutic, and artistic--creative methodology, this production thesis is an attempt to convey the complicated dynamics that arise out of one's encounters with traumatic experiences. It also depicts the process of spiraling though a transformational healing process offered when one chooses to consciously and creatively engage with and give voice to the images within.
