Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by a range of deficits in social interactions and communication, as well as the presence of restricted and stereotypic patterns of behavior. This study examines parental attitudes toward sexual behavior in adolescents with ASD. More specifically, it looks at differences in inappropriate sexual behaviors associated with verbal proficiency, severity of ASD, gender, and pubescent stage. Adolescence is a time where sexuality emerges, and past literature has shown that individuals with autism experience the sexual interest associated with puberty onset and have difficulties managing these changes appropriately. The results of this study will increase understanding of sexuality in ASD and demonstrate the need for interventions aimed at assisting pubescent and post-pubescent ASD individuals in coping with their behavioral urges.
