The specific problem addressed by this study was to understand those experiences well-prepared students undertake to become career ready as they position themselves for post-graduation employment. The majority of college students experience post-graduation employment challenges. The exception are those better prepared graduates with co-curricular and internship experiences that aid in the attainment of desirable post-graduation employment. The purpose of this qualitative intrinsic case study was to identify the perceptions of graduates related to unique curricular and industry internship experiences and the perceived importance of these unique experiences to their career readiness and post-graduation employment. The data analysis process generated five themes critical to the research. These included: (1) students value meaningful learning experiences, (2) team experiences aid in preparation for industry careers. (3) portfolio/ presentation skills contribute to career readiness, (4) skill attainment and client/mentor interaction are important to post-graduation employment and, (5) higher education should provide students "real world" experiences. The results of the study indicated the participants felt class projects were a less desirable experience contrasted to working as a team member on industry projects. Critical to the success of cultivating high achieving student teams, industry mentors and professors must engage students in active learning, internships, externships, project based learning, cooperative based learning, team based learning, and service learning experiences. This study provided insight to those skills graduates deem important to their career readiness and post-graduation employment. As the body of research in the areas of career readiness and post-graduation employment proliferate, higher education institutions, professors, and industry will gain important knowledge in how to best provide real world experiences that graduates value.
