Research has discussed the importance of the therapeutic relationship and its impact towards therapy outcomes. Moreover, research indicates that the process of establishing the therapeutic relationship can differ related to diagnosis and population. However, the topic of therapeutic relationship building with children and adolescents diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) has yet to be examined. Through a generic qualitative measure, the research uncovered some of the personal, professional, and circumstantial factors related to the therapeutic relationship-building experiences of clinicians who treat children/adolescents diagnosed with RAD. The themes that arose as a result of the data outlined a method of unanimity when establishing a therapeutic relationship with children/adolescents diagnosed with RAD. The results demonstrated a discovery of a therapeutic relationship cycle to be used when attempting to establish a therapeutic relationship with children/adolescents diagnosed with RAD.
