Understanding what drives a traveler's route choice behavior is vital information for the transportation industry. In the setting of behavioral economics, a traveler's route choice reflects the traveler's preferences as well as any influence that public policy place on an individual's travel behavior. This quantitative study followed previous scholarly authors by using a game theoretic framework and multiple regression analysis to investigate the phenomenon of route choice behaviors. Additionally, the study sought to rearrange the ground-based route factors into air route constructs to test the model's fit against data from 10 selected air routes. Due to the manner in which utility was being manually determined, initial analysis attempts encountered problems with multicollinearity between the dependent variable (utility- air route preference) and the independent variable of travel time. IBM SPSS conjoint analysis, however, produced significant results as well as differentiated utility values for each route. Conclusions drawn included that the theoretical framework, ground-based factors, and methodology were able to be converted into air route factors that showed correlations with the dependent variable of utility. Recommendations for future studies are to add a construct for ticket price, and stated preference surveys for studying potential differential effects of demographic information.
