Resiliency encompasses personal strengths that empower individuals to move beyond adversity and forward in life. The role of mental health professionals includes understanding and awareness related to resiliency as a concept and its role in building resiliency in foster children. This generic qualitative study presents the voice of trained mental health professionals who observed foster children thrive despite major disruptions in their lives. This study presents a narrative perspective of how mental health professionals perceived and defined resiliency in foster children. In addition, this study highlights their opinion of what factors enhanced or hindered resiliency building in foster children. Thematic analysis was the chosen method of analysis drawing out themes related to natural abilities, self-preservation, connection, intrapsychic resources, and systematic challenges. Recommendations from this study identify changes needed to build and enhance future resiliency building in foster children based on the clinical viewpoint of the mental health professionals who participated in this study.
