This study explored innovation in Army research. Recent external environmental changes, including but not limited to, the events of 9/11, the ensuing war on terrorism, and the speed of globalization may have created conditions where a paradigm shift in military research can spur further innovation. This dissertation studied Army innovation and research processes and concludes with recommendations, an optimal organizational design, and innovative business processes to harness new innovation that responds to these new global threats. The impact of this research is significant in terms of the possibility of improved national security and faster war on terrorism solutions developed by a more innovative climate at the Army Research office to complement future innovations for the battlefield.
