Currently, a gap in the literature exist in the examination and incorporation of individual's perception of the effectiveness of the various institutions. Using conditional or fixed effects logistic regression, on the random sample portion of the Seattle Neighborhoods and Crime Survey project, analysis of the full models suggests that the components of collective efficacy are associated with perceptions of high efficacy in terms of solving major problems in the respondent's neighborhood. There is a total of 1572 respondents in this study.

Future research into this area of inquiry should focus on perceptions of low/no efficacy in these institutions in terms of solving major problems. Also, this future research should focus on giving various scenarios to the respondents. This approach will provide the researcher, respondents, and academics with a clearer understanding of what constitutes a major problem and the responses can be more thoroughly examined. In terms of crime prevention, examples of problems should consist of property, violent, or street crimes. In addition, this research can expand to other phenomena such as economic disparities or governing of public lands for common use.
