Over the past decade, technology usage, such as social media platforms and text messages, has increased exponentially. Not surprisingly, as technology usage increased, higher rates of cyberbully have been reported. Cyberbullying is when a user uses digital platforms, such as social media or text messages, to send, post, or share negative information about another individual causing embarrassment or humiliation. Cyberbullying is problematic because the offender can remain anonymous and persistently pursue the victim creating long-lasting negative effects for the victim. Studies have determined that there is a correlation between the amount spent online and cyberbullying and victimization. Studies have demonstrated that those involved in cyberbullying have suffered from depression and anxiety at higher rates than those who have not been victims. In fact, sometimes in severe cases it has led to suicide. Due to this, it is important that institutions are aware of the cyberbullying dilemma and take the correct approach to prevent cyberbullying from getting worse.
