This study found eight primary factors affecting the academic success of Chinese international undergraduate students while studying in the United States. They included language barrier, cultural differences in classroom setting, lack training in making presentation, too much parental involvement in college major selection, difficulties in adjusting to a new academic environment, psychological issues, poor preparation for pursuing higher education in the U.S., and dismissal from American colleges or universities due to a series of reasons. Some of these findings were in agreement with those of the previous research. The others were new findings of this research.

The findings to the second research question about the supporting strategies needed to promote the academic success of Chinese international undergraduate students included eight strategies: to improve the orientation and provide written version in Chinese to Chinese students, to improve the teaching of ESL program, to create more opportunities to help international students to improve their English proficiency, to provide courses or lectures to introduce multi-cultures, to utilize Chinese senior or graduate students as resources to help newly-arrived Chinese undergraduate students, to provide more and better services to international students, to establish a welcoming campus environment for International undergraduate students, and to advocate parents of Chinese international undergraduate students to help. Although this research question had not been found in the previous literature, some of the current findings were congruent with the recommendations of several previous research.
