As a psychological state, future time perspective (FTP) is substantially meaningful for older adults due to the fact that chronological age and life expectancy have an inextricable relationship. As different individual statuses and basic psychological needs substantially affect older adults' travel FTP (open-ended travel FTP: OTFTP, limited travel FTP: LTFTP) and behavioral decisions, this dissertation mainly examined how demographic status, health condition, and basic psychological needs for travel affect older adults' travel FTP and intention as well as how travel FTP affects older adults' travel FTP and intention. In addition, for a better understanding and detailed information regarding older adults' travel behavior, the proposed dissertation divided two age groups (Group 1: 60-69 years old, Group 2: 70 years and over) and compared the relationship among demographic status, health condition, basic psychological needs for travel, travel FTP, travel motivation, and travel intention. Therefore, two aims were tested in this dissertation.

520 $a In Aim 1, the results showed that chronological age was positively associated with LTFTP while negatively associated with OTFTP. However, there was no statistical relationship between chronological age and travel intention. On the other hand, health and relatedness from basic psychological needs were negatively associated with LTFTP and positively associated with OTFTP and travel intention. These outcomes indicate that good health and relatedness play an important role in enhancing OTFTP and travel intention rather than age.
520 $a In Aim 2, Group 1 showed that health condition and relatedness were positively associated with OTFTP and only health condition was negatively associated with LTFTP. On the other hand, Group 2 showed that both health condition and relatedness were positively associated with OTFTP and negatively associated with LTFTP. These outcomes show that good health condition lessens LTFTP and enhances OTFTP. In addition, as health condition was positively related to travel intention in Group 2 but not in Group 1, health condition plays an important role in enhancing travel intention in Group 2.
520 $a In conclusion, from a theoretical point of view, this dissertation broadens the areas of older adults' travel behavior with future time perspective by linking the socioemotional selectivity theory with the travel context.
