Relationship dissatisfaction can be affected by a number of factors, including gender stereotypic beliefs (Maaref, Khalili, Hejaxi, & Lavasani, 2015) and ambivalent sexism (Casad, Salazar, & Macina, 2015; Hammond & Overall, 2013a). When some couples face relationship dissatisfaction, they choose to seek couples therapy. The present study examined the connection among ambivalent sexism, gender stereotypic beliefs, seeking couples therapy, and relationship dissatisfaction, by examining these factors in 220 heterosexual adults. Results indicated gender stereotypic beliefs ambivalent sexism were related to negative attitudes toward seeking couples therapy. Additionally, this study identified differences in women and in terms of their beliefs related to hostile sexism, ambivalent sexism, and attitudes toward seeking couples therapy. Implications for practice were discussed.
