520 $a PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine convergent and construct validity for a new virtual-reality neurocognitive measure of functional capacity, the Virtual Reality Functional Capacity Assessment Tool (VRFCAT) with individuals diagnosed with first-episode schizophrenia spectrum disorders and healthy controls.
520 $a METHODS: 42 patients diagnosed with first-episode schizophrenia spectrum disorders and 13 controls completed a promising virtual-reality assessment tool to measure functional capacity, the VRFCAT (time to complete scenario one, errors committed, and forced progressions/failed objectives), a role-play task measuring functional capacity called the University of California San Diego Performance-Based Skills Assessment-2 (UPSA-2), and a measure of cognition MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB).
520 $a CONCLUSION: The present study determined convergent and construct validity for the first scenario of the VRFCAT assessment. The VRFCAT demonstrated positive relationships with both the MCCB and UPSA-2, with a stronger relationship to the MCCB, suggesting that the VRFCAT may be more reflective of cognitive functioning than functional capacity for individuals diagnosed with first-episode schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
